Motivation
I have been learning the gayageum since the age of six from my grandmother, a Human Cultural Treasure of the gayageum, and I am now a certified trainee of National Intangible Cultural Heritage. Yet even in Korea, gugak has not come close enough to the public. That is why I challenged myself on the stage of Miss Korea, where so many people pay attention. I believe that a gugak performer who is also Miss Korea can draw greater interest in our traditional arts from Koreans and people around the world alike. Just like K-pop and K-dramas, I want to personally show that K-traditional arts can be loved just as much.
